University Scholarships & Vo-tech Assistance Awards
This will be the sixteenth year the Kansas Water Environment Association is offering scholarships for university students wishing to pursue a career in environmental areas and financial assistance for training in environmental vocational technical areas. With board support and approval KWEA will be offering in the 2016-2017 fiscal year up to $3,950 in scholarships and financial assistance to Kansas students.
The following awards are planned to be made available in 2017:
- Three university scholarships in the amounts of $1200, $1000, and $750; and
- Up to $1,000 set aside for any amount up to $500 of assistance requested for technical school students
University applications will be solicited near the end of January 2017 and applications accepted until Feb. 19, 2017. Applications for vo-tech wastewater training financial assistance can be submitted for consideration anytime throughout the year.
Notification and Formal Presentation of Scholarships
The university scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2017 and will be formally presented at the KWEA annual conference luncheons. The awards are limited to students attending Kansas schools. University scholarship applicants should also be, at a minimum, finishing their sophomore year in college and interested in pursuing a career in the environmental sciences. There are no financial need requirements, only an essay and other application information on academic achievement and other activities.
About Vo-tech Assistance Awards
Please note: For the last couple of years KWEA has not awarded a vo-tech assistance award due to a lack of applicants. A portion of these unused awards have been utilized in the next year for additional university scholarship awards and is included in the amounts indicated above. The vo-tech assistance being offered can be requested for any amount (up to $500) paid for or to be paid for by the applicant associated with operator training courses including transportation, books, as well as un-reimbursed course costs.
